MTR Mainland China and International Business

From its starting base in Hong Kong, the Corporation has expanded into the Mainland of China, Macao and taken on a range of railway-related projects and operations internationally. In the Mainland of China, the Corporation has been involved in the Beijing Metro Line 4, Daxing Line, Line 14 and Line 16, Shenzhen Metro Line 4 (Longhua Line), and Hangzhou Metro Line 1 and Line 5 project.

The Corporation also operates and manages Melbourne's Metropolitan Rail Service in Australia, Stockholm Metro, Stockholm commuter rail (Stockholms pendeltåg) and Stockholm-Gothenburg Intercity Express Service (MTR Express). The Corporation was awarded the Crossrail (Elizabeth Line) Train Operating Concession in the United Kingdom in July 2014, and started operation of South Western Railway in 2017. In September 2014 the Northwest Rapid Transit Consortium, of which the Corporation is a shareholder, was awarded the Operations, Trains and Systems (OTS) Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contract for the Sydney Metro North West project in Sydney.
